The Vienna Times received an e-mail this week from Nathan Thurston, a Vienna native and a 2005 honor graduate of Vienna High School.
Nate is the lead guitarist for an up and coming musical video band, Darling Parade.
Darling Parade – souring to the top of all-time “music videos to watch” – has produced nearly a dozen hit music videos and albums in the past years.
The group has made headline in USA Today, Channel One, and many others.
During a Vienna Times telephone interview with Nate it was learned that many of Darling Parade’s hit videos have been recorded in Southern Illinois, including Cairo and rural Pulaski County.
Nate is the son of former Vienna Grade School teacher Donna Thurston, now living in Carterville, and Jerry (Lisa) Thurston of Pulaski County.
Following is ‘a must read’ of a Johnson County boy, and other Southern Illinoisans, that have done very well for themselves by hard work and determination:
My name is Nathan Thurston. I attended Vienna Grade School and Vienna High School, and graduated in the class of 2005.
Since moving to Nashville, Tenn. to pursue my dream in music, my band “Darling Parade” has had a few things happen recently that I thought might go well in the local newspaper.
Just recently, we traveled to NYC after being nominated for MTV’s “Make A Band Famous” category at the O Music Awards. Other artists nominated at the awards included Beyonce, Justin Beiber, etc.
We won our category, and are now MTV’s “Artist To Watch.” That means that we will be on around 100 commercials on MTV and MTV2 in the coming months. Also, we will be headlining our own show in Times Square during the Video Music Awards next month.
On top of that, we were also chosen to star in a national tv commercial for the salon “Supercuts.” It can be viewed at http://youtu.be/CVkpuul8WCA
Supercuts does not have any stores in Southern Illinois, but they have over 2,000 stores nationally. So our commercial will be played all over the country on a lot of major networks.
We were also recently announced Channel One News’ “Artist of the Year.” I’m not sure if you are familiar with Channel One, but it is shown in thousands of schools across the country (including Vienna), and has roughly 8 million viewers daily.
Last year we toured with Cassadee Pope, who won the last season of NBC’s “The Voice.”
Our music has also been used on the SYFY Channel, The CW, MTV, and Showtime.
Anyway, I just thought it might be nice if the paper from my hometown said something about it. Let me know if you need more information. I’m going to post some links to our music videos, and some reviews we have had written about [Darling Parade] recently.
Editor’s note: Other members of the band include Harrisburg native and vocalist Kristin Kearns, bass player Dustin Lynch of Benton and drummer Casy Conrad of Memphis, Tenn.
