Local athletes compete in Special Olympics


Nearly 4,000 athletes from across the state competed in the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games on June 14-16 at Illinois State University in Normal and Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. Athletes competed in one of six sports: aquatics, athletics (track & field), bocce, gymnastics, powerlifting and soccer.

Athletes and coaches from Family Counseling Center traveled to the Special Olympics state summer games. 

The local team, pictured above, from left, included: Jacob Stevens, Larren Schell, Donna Stone, Mandy Curry, Kara Adams, Danielle Nagy, Christy Little, Wayne Queen, Amanda Queen, Mary Ruth Buttrum, John Scott, Carol Baine, Eric Baumann, Ronda Coomes, Doris Brown, Jeremy West, Dennis Dailey, Kim Queen, Teresa Thomas and Roy Cooley.
