On Wednesday, April 17, 2013, the Vienna FFA made their way to Murray State University for the 61st Annual FFA Field Day, where members are allowed to participate in a variety of different CDE’s.
Vienna participated in many of the offered CDE’s, including bull riding, livestock, dairy and horse judging, tool identification, auctioneering and tobacco judging.
Vienna placed 1st in bull riding with Dylan Wisocki, 3rd place in horse judging, 6th place in dairy judging and 6th place in livestock judging, competing against 50 other schools.
Ag Mechanics CDE
Thursday, April 18, 2013, five Vienna FFA members went to Rend Lake College to compete in the annual Ag Mechanics CDE. Desiree Walter, Alex Ross, Dallas Bent, Wyatt Miles and Lake Norris competed in various areas.
Desiree competed in surveying and placed 3rd, Alex competed in power and placed 3rd, Dallas competed in welding and placed 2nd, Wyatt Miles competed in carpentry and placed 2nd, and Lake Norris competed in electric and placed 3rd. Vienna placing 2nd overall.
SIU Livestock Judging
The Vienna FFA went to SIU on Friday, April 19, 2013, for the 9th Annual Agriculture Industry Day to compete in livestock judging.
Members judged 2 keep-cull rings and 6 ranking rings, ranging from heifers and bulls, sheep, goats and swine. Despite having to compete in what felt like freezing weather, the FFA came home after receiving 32nd overall out of 56 teams. Vienna’s highest individual scorer was Desiree Walter, placing 15th in high beef competing against 268 other FFA members.
