Frank Thoms – Obituary

Frank Thoms, age 68 years, a resident of rural Metropolis, Illinois, passed away Saturday evening, May 18, 2013, at 9:30 PM at the Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, Illinois.

Frank was born January 12, 1945 in Coulterville, Illinois. He was the son of Andreas “Andy” Thoms and Annie (Lawless) Thoms.

Frank was united in marriage to Marie A. (Rabe) on December 11, 1966 at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois. She survives.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by: a brother – Andreas Fred Thoms and a sister – Carolyn Thoms.

Frank was a 1963 graduate of Coulterville High School. He had attended the Franklin Truck Driving School in Paducah, Kentucky.

Frank was employed for over 28 years as a railroad clerk. He had worked for the GM&O (Gulf, Mobile, & Ohio) , the ICG (Illinois Central Gulf) and the P&L (Paducah & Louisville) Railroad lines. He was also a former union representative and local chairman for the BRAC (Brotherhood of Railroad & Airline Clerks) Union.
Additionally, Frank was employed for 15 years by Dippin’ Dots as a driver and vendor.

Frank was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Paducah, KY.

Frank enjoyed “tinkering” on vehicles. He is remembered by his family for his love of music and playing the guitar. He never met a stranger and was always more than willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Frank also was a prankster and enjoyed a “good joke.” He especially cherished the time he spent with his family, particularly his granddaughters. Frank also loved “fussing” with his pet dogs.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday evening, May 21, 2013, at 7 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.

Visitation will be from 5 PM – 7 PM Tuesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
