Bettajean Hester, 78, of rural Belknap, Illinois, passed away Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Southgate Health Care Center in Metropolis, Illinois.
Bettajean was born May 11, 1934 in Vienna, Illinois. She was the daughter of Joseph E. and Dimple (Comer) Cheek.
Bettajean was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Ray Hester, on January 27, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Vienna. Together, they enjoyed over 58 years of marriage, prior to Kenneth Ray’s passing on September 9, 2010.
Survivors include a son, David (Janet) Hester, grandchildren, Paul Blankenship, Jason (Jolene) Thimoleas, Heather Renee VanZile, Amanda Hester, Brandi Short, Brittany Johnson, Bridgett McMurtry and Bergendi Johnson. Great grandchildren, Alyssia, Serenity (Devan) VanZile, Sadie Rogers, Jayden Thimoleas and Aiden Hester. Son-in-law, Jim Blankenship and sisters-in-law, Norma Hodge and Janice Huckelberry and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bettajean was preceded in death by two daughters, Lucinda Rae Thimoleas and Carla Jane Blankenship; a granddaughter, Diane Lee Blankenship and three brothers, James Lloyd Cheek, Joseph Comer Cheek and Raymond Cheek.
Bettajean was a homemaker. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church near Cypress, Illinois. Bettajean enjoyed ballroom dancing, camping and flower gardening. She was a voracious reader.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, April 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Jay Franklin will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
