Jo Steiger, 79, of Vienna, Illinois, passed away Sunday morning, March 17, 2013 at 3:08 a.m. (PST) at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Rob Havens in Spokane Valley, Washington.
Jo was born August 14, 1933 in Ozark, Illinois. She was the daughter of Walter Cook Sr. and Fannie (Newbold) Cook.
Jo was united in marriage to Roy Steiger on January 20, 1951 in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2003.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy and Rob Havens of Spokane Valley, two grandchildren, Ryan and Sheba Rademaker, Jenna and Jason Sims, four great grandchildren, Ayden and Jaylyn Rademaker, and Paris and Taylor Sims, a sister, Ina Whitley of Hopedale, Illinois, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jo was preceded in death by a grandson, Robbie Havens, two sisters, Mable Dalton and Mary Evetts, six brothers, Wilburn, Walter Jr., Ronnie, Roscoe, Orville “Slim” and John Cook.
Jo was a nurse’s aide and had worked for 25 years at the Hopedale Hospital.
She was a member of the Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Jo is remembered as an avid dancer and shopper.
A graveside service will be held Saturday March 23, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Wise-Robinson Cemetery near Ozark. Pastor Bud McDannel will officiate.
Those attending the service are asked to be at the cemetery at 9:45 a.m. There will be no public visitation.
