Ruby E. Dungan – Obituary

Ruby E. Dungan, 82, a resident of Dupo, Illinois and a former resident of Vienna, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at 2:40 a.m. at the Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Ruby was born January 3, 1931 in Johnson County Illinois.  She was the daughter of Charles Shoemaker and Ruthie Pearl (Daniels) Shoemaker.

She was united in marriage to William Dungan on September 13, 1975 at the First Baptist Church in Dupo, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1988.

Survivors include:

A granddaughter – Sarah Wormington of Seymour, MO

Special Neighbors & Friends – Tom & Brenda McGeehan of Dupo, IL

A host of Nieces and Nephews to the third generation, as well as other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by:

A brother – Freddie Shoemaker

2 Sisters – Hazel Miller and Marie Newton

Ruby was a graduate of the Vienna High School.  She also was a graduate of the Christian Welfare School of Nursing in East St. Louis, Illinois.

Ruby was a registered nurse and served for many years as the Director of Nurses at Christian Welfare Hospital in East St. Louis.  She later worked as a nursing supervisor in a hospital in Thibodaux, LA. She was a 50+ year member of the Rob Morris Chapter # 98 O.E.S. in Belleville, IL.  She was also a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church in Dupo, Illinois, where she had served as the P.T.L. Coordinator.

Ruby enjoyed collecting.  She was especially fond of collecting dolls and books.  Ruby also enjoyed traveling.  Along with her husband Bill, Ruby had enjoyed a Hawaiian vacation.  She was an avid genealogist and family historian. Ruby is remembered by her family for her quick wit.  She enjoyed joking with those closest to her and spending time with family and friends.

Eastern Star rites will be accorded at 11 AM Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Service will follow with Pastor Jerry Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9AM- 11 AM Thursday at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
