Doris McKenzie – Obituary

Doris McKenzie, 94, a resident of Vienna, IL, passed away Wednesday afternoon January 30, 2013 at 3:55 p.m. at her home in Vienna.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, February 4, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Vienna. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 – 6 p.m. Sunday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.

Doris was born May 17, 1918 in Carterville, IL. She was the daughter of C.C “Coy” McCuan and Mae (Bell) McCuan.

Doris was united in marriage to A.E. “Elmer” McKenzie on July 2, 1938 in Streator, IL. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1999.

Jerry D. & Thelma McKenzie of Springfield, IL

Her Grandchildren- Adrienne & Tom McCrady of Lewisville, TX
Philip & Yvette McKenzie of Peoria, IL
Brian & Tammy McKenzie of West Paducah, KY
Melissa & Jason Kommer of Vienna, IL
6 Great Grandchildren
A Sister- Edith G. Thompson of Vienna, IL
A Niece- Janet Riepe of Knoxville, TN
A host of cousins, other relatives and many dear friends
Also, Doris was anticipating the birth of a great granddaughter in May 2013.

Doris was a 1936 graduate of the Vienna High School and had attended a year of college education at SIU Normal University in Carbondale, IL

Doris was the Co-Owner and Operator of the Western Auto Store in Vienna for many years.

She was the longest continually attending member of the First United Methodist Church in Vienna. She taught Sunday School for many of years and was very active in the Methodist Women’s organization in various roles.

She loved to cook, cross stitch and refinish furniture. Doris was an avid reader and especially enjoyed suspense and mystery novels as well as inspirational works. James Michener was her favorite author. Doris is fondly remembered by her family for the love and devotion she has shown throughout her lifetime by nurturing the physical needs of several family members. Her life was her family, her church, and her business.
