Carl T. Smoot, 83, a resident of rural Vienna, IL, passed away Wednesday morning January 30, 2013 at 10:07 a.m. at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, IL.
Carl was born May 10, 1929 in Dongola, IL. He was the son of Henry Smoot and Iva (Rendleman) Smoot. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane (Davis) Smoot. She survives

Carl served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post #2910
Carl had worked at Transcraft, Inc. in Anna, IL where he was employed as a Chipper and Grinder Engineer. He was an associate member of the IL. Sheriff’s association and a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau.
He was of the Baptist Faith.
Carl loved poetry He is fondly remembered for his love of “raising pigs & kids.” He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday February 2, 2013 at 1PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, IL. Brother Bill Littrell will officiate. Military rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post #5222 and by the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Details.
Burial will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery near Dongola, IL.
Visitations will be from 11AM- 1PM Saturday at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
