George William “G.W” Ming – Obituary

George William “G.W” Ming, 72, of Vienna, IL., passed away Sunday evening December 30, 2012 at 9:40 p.m. at the Carbondale Memorial Hospital.

G.W. was born October 5, 1940 in McAllister, Oklahoma.  He was the son of Zell Ming and Lillian Faye (Adams) Ming-Morris.

G.W. was united in marriage to Joy Creel in California.  To this union was born 4 children – Tom (Melanie) Ming, Teresa Ming, Travis (Sylvia) Ming, and Troy (Julia) Ming all of Santa Paula, CA.

G.W. was united in marriage to Debra “Debbie” (nee Nichols) Ming on September 14, 1984 in Vienna, IL.  She survives.

In addition to his wife and children, G.W. is survived by: a stepson – Chad (Rita) Nalley of the Big Bay community; 15 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters – Dorothy Crowe of Vienna, IL and Barbara Brewer of Bokoshe, OK; 2 Brothers – John Ming of Cypress, IL and Steve Ming of Stockton, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends throughout Illinois, California, Kansas and Missouri.

In addition to his parents, G.W. was preceded in death by: 4 brothers – Bob, Harry, Horace, & Vernon Ming and 2 sisters – Sue Turner and Lena Moore.

G.W. was a graduate of the Santa Paula, California High School.  He was employed for a number of years by J.W. Reynolds Monument Co. and later worked for the Shawnee Development Council on home refurbishing projects.

G.W. was of the Baptist faith.  He was a 25+ year member of New Columbia Masonic Lodge # 336 AF&AM at Ganntown.  G.W. was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mowing grass.  G.W. is remembered by family and friends as a wonderful cook, making especially excellent omelets.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday January 5, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Tom Lloyd will officiate. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Cypress, IL.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Friday at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Masonic rites will be accorded at 8PM by Ganntown Masonic Lodge #336 AF&AM.

Memorials may be made to the family.
