Wayne E. Cochran

Wayne E. Cochran, 94, a resident of Marietta, GA and a former resident of Winter Haven, FL and Vienna, IL, passed away, Thursday, August 9,2012 at Halcyon Hospice in Atlanta, GA. He was born Oct. 4th, 1917 and raised in Vienna, Illinois.
Mr. Cochran graduated from high school and entered the Army Air Corps during WWII. He completed pilot training, earned a commission and instructed pilots in the B-17, B-25, and B-29 aircraft.
In 1948, Mr. Cochran and his first wife, Billie, and their 3 children moved from McConnelsville, Ohio to Winter Haven, FL were he worked as a pilot instructor at Bartow Air Base. In 1955, he started Cochran Insurance Agency.
After leaving the insurance business, Mr. Cochran lived in Lakeland, FL; LaGrange, GA; Vienna, IL; Paducah, KY; then due to health reasons moved to Marietta, to be near his son, Jim and his wife, Susan. In Paducah, Mr. Cochran became a Paducah Ambassador and a full Kentucky Colonel as a result of his many volunteer activities.
Mr. Cochran was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Cummins Kirkey of Vienna. He is survived by his daughter, Barclay A. Weyand of Orlando, FL; his sons, John C. Cochran (Wife: Carolyn) of Alasbaster, AL and James C. Cochran of Marietta. He had 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday October 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Bailey Funeral Home . Family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM.
