Police investigating Thursday morning crash on Rt. 146

The Illinois State Police  and Johnson County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of this crash that happened Thursday, Oct. 11 at around 7:25 a.m. The accident occurred on Illinois Route 146 approximately 2 mile east of the Johnson/Union County line near Pleasant Grove Church.

Lindsey Goddard, 19, of Dongola was air-lifted to Banes Hospital in St. Louis with major injuries.

Goddard was east bound on Rt. 146 when she struck the rear of a pickup truck driven by Charles Mills, 48, of Jonesboro. Mills was stopped behind a school bus that was loading students, when the accident occurred.

Mills was transported by Johnson County Ambulance Service to Union County Hospital with minor injuries.

Goddard’s vehicle came to rest in the center of Rt. 146, blocking both lanes of traffic. Traffic was halted for more than one hour.

Goddard was sited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to wear a seat belt.
