Vienna man killed at Olmsted Lock and Dam job site

Robert R. Billingsley, 54, of Vienna, was killed Friday afternoon, June 1, while working on the Olmsted Lock and Dam project on the Ohio River. Billingsley was pronounced dead at the scene at about 1:35 p.m.

Billingsley, employee of a joint venture between URS Washington Division, Boise, Idaho, and Alberici Constructors, St. Louis, was securing barges at the time of the incident.

The accident is still under investigation.

According to reports, Billingsleys death was the first at the lock and dam construction site near Olmsted.

Olmsted Locks and Dam is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project under construction in the Ohio River. The project includes twin 110-foot by 1200-foot lock chambers and dam with navigable pass. The project will replace outdated navigation locks and dams 52 and 53 upstream from the project site.
