Opal J. Crim

Opal J. Crim, 93, a resident of the Brownfield community in Pope County, died Sunday afternoon, June 17, 2012, at 2:31 p.m. at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.

Opal was born on Sept. 26, 1918, in the Shady Grove community near Brookport, the daughter of Harrison and Lilly Morris McCorkle.

Opal married James A. Crim Sr. on Jan. 26, 1939, in Paducah, Ky. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1993.

Opal is survived by her five sons, James E. Crim Jr. and his wife Eudora of the Brownfield community, Robert I. Crim and his wife Sarah of the Temple Hill community, Prentiss L. Crim and his wife Mona of Stonefort, Ricky Crim and his wife Paula of Metropolis and Rodney Crim and his wife Debra of the Brownfield community; 22 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Opal was preceded in death by a son, Larry Crim; two daughters, Patricia “Tish” Crim and Hazel Marie Jones; three sisters, Jessie Harris, Hazel Alsup and Drucilla McCorkle; a brother, Harrison McCorkle Jr.; and her stepmother, Louella McCorkle.

Opal was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Brookport. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Opal is remembered as an awesome cook and she loved to prepare meals for her family and friends.

Opal was a devoted Christian and loved serving God. She was a faithful member of the Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church near Brownfield, where she was revered and respected as the mother of the church.  Opal had served her church as a Sunday School teacher in the primary class as well as teaching Bible studies.  She had also served as president of the cemetery committee.Opal was also a 35-plus year member of the Brookport Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.

In her spare time, Opal loved the challenge of working word search puzzles.

A home going service was conducted Saturday morning,  June 23, at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Benny Heady officiated.

Burial was in the Macedonia Cemetery near Brownfield.
