Don E. George, 84, of Brookport, died at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012, at his residence.
Funeral services were held at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home Sunday, June 17, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Louis W. Brinker and Dr. Joe Buchanan officiating. Burial followed at the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Don was a former manager at Credit Thrift for 35 years and was currently employed at City National Bank in Metropolis. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Metropolis, the Metropolis Gideons Camp, and a former member of Kiwanis. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Don is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy George of Brookport; two daughters, Donello George of Vienna and Amanda George of Brookport; one son, Gregory George and his wife Sabrina of Benton, Ky.; four grandchildren, Clarissa Short, Jessica Jones and Kelli Jones all of Metropolis and Jared Sexton of Brookport; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents William Thomas W.T. and Ruth Casper George; one sister, Bobby Moore and husband Olen; and one brother, William Bill George and wife Grace.

Pallbearers were Jared Sexton, Gregory George, Jimmy Ellis, Kent Howle, Kevin Partian, Joey Mounce and Steven Summerford.
