Dennis D. Alford

Dennis D. Alford, 69, of Cypress, died Friday morning, May 11, 2012, at 5:03 a.m. at his home.

Dennis was born on June 6, 1942, in Elgin, the son of Henry Alford and Ruby Brown Alford.

Dennis married Lisa Young on June 14, 2001, in Kankakee. She survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Jennifer and Kenton Schuh of Phoenix, Ariz.; his stepchildren, Tyrone and Christine Turner of Kentucky, Mario Mendez of Cypress, Laquesha and Tomele Staples of Kankakee, Sophia Mendez of Kankakee and Thomas Turner of Indiana; three grandchildren, Braden Schuh, Tierney Schuh and Zachary Brady; 11 step-grandchildren, Tyler Turner, Marcus Mendez, Kelvontte Bell, Keelan Bell, Daylan Staples, Christian Whalum, Malik Baskin, Payton Baskin, Tiffany Cyrier, Deanna Turner and Brittany Turner; a step-great-granddaughter, Charlie Sue Chillemi; a sister, Janet and Jim Hayden of Paducah, Ky.; two stepbrothers, Dan Slack and Robert Slack; and two stepsisters, Sharon Frasier and Pam Williamson.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Henry Alford; his mother, Ruby Alford Slack; his stepfather, Bonnard Slack; and a stepbrother, Michael Slack.

Dennis had worked as a forklift driver for General Foods in Kankakee for several years, prior to his retirement. He also had been employed by Space Center Chicago, located in Kankakee for seven years.

Dennis was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed bird watching, especially hummingbirds. Additionally, Dennis enjoyed spending time bowling and hunting. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and was a member of the Harley-Davidson Rider’s Club.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services.
