Charles (Charlie) A. Craig

Charles (Charlie) A. Craig, 84, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, in Tampa, FL after a brief illness.

Originally from Cobden, Illinois, Charlie was born January 23, 1934, and became a Marine, a teacher, a sportsman and coach, and a 20-year member of the Department of Justice where he retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1989. From there Charlie practiced his true calling(s) of hunting and fishing and watching the Cardinals win championships.

After several years of commuting between Illinois and Florida, Charlie became a full time resident of Sebring, FL and the Lake Josephine community where local fish still fear his name.

Charlie is survived by his daughters from his first marriage to Carol Taylor Craig (Melbourne, FL); Christina Craig and her husband Andrew McAlister (Tampa, FL) and Cathy Craig and her husband Jonathan Reilly (Seattle, WA). Charlie was especially proud of his grandchildren Thomas and Adele McAlister of Tampa.

Charlie often returned to Southern Illinois to visit friends and family – and fish – in Vienna and Cobden. He always considered the lakes and woods of the area to be his true home.

Charlie hated “a fuss” and requested no services or funeral.

If you would like to remember Charlie, please, drop by the VFW, 102 8th St, Vienna, IL, Friday, April 20, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. and have a last drink on him.
