Samuel J. Jennings

Samuel J Jennings, age 84, of Grantsburg, IL passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Baptist Health of Paducah, KY after a 20 year battle with cancer.

Mr. Jennings was a member of Simpson Baptist Church. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a lifelong member of the VFW. He had belonged to the Operating Engineers Local 318.

When Kotter Ready Mix opened at Vienna, he became manager, also running his own business, operating heavy equipment and digging basements for 20 plus years.

Losing his dad at a young age, Samuel learned the value of hard work and compassion for others.

He is survived by five children, Debbie (Danny) Hillebrand, Pam Ford, Kevin (Donna) Jennings, Eric Jennings, and Brian (Gera) Jennings; fourteen grandchildren, Cassie Graves, Corey (Heather) Hillebrand, Jeanetta Ford, Steven Jennings, Sara Jennings, Nicholas Jennings, Wyatt Jennings, Megan Jennings, Natalie Jennings, Eric (Amy) Wooley, Liz Meyer, Natasha (Eric) Davis, Dawnette (Scott) McCree, Scott (Rosa) Sparks and their families; seven great grandchildren, Ashton (Shelby) McDuffee, Destiny McDuffee, Selena Graves, Layla Hillebrand, Bailey Hillebrand, Lucas Evetts, Kristina Jennings, and Elliot Flach; one sister, Jane Galloway; bro in law,  Rillis Mizell and many nieces and nephews he thought of dearly.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon, at age 7, his parents, Walter A and Opal Jennings; two brothers, James Jennings and Walter Jennings; and four sisters, Mary Gill, Augusta Robinson, Clora Melton, Marjorie Grimes, Ella Mizell, and Irma Lunsford.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated. The family will hold a memorial at a later date.
