William Lee Henard, age 87 years, a resident of Paducah, Kentucky and a former resident of rural Buncombe, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday evening, November 28, 2017, at 7:20 PM at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Paducah.
Bill was born August 16, 1930 in Cypress, Illinois. He was the son of Loyd Daniel and Orpha Mae (Bost) Henard.
On December 30, 1950, Bill was united in marriage to Freeda L. Turner at the First Baptist Church in Vienna. She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter – Phyllis A. (her husband, Ray) McLennan of Paducah, Kentucky; 3 grandchildren – Amanda (her husband, Adam) Peek of Paducah, Kentucky; Sheri McLennan and Wendy (her husband, Tom) Barker all of Louisville, Kentucky; a brother – Dorris Martin Henard of Canton; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by: an infant brother – Guy Edward Henard; 2 brothers – Doyle Loyd Henard and Dale Daniel Henard; and 5 sisters – Mary “Agnes” Henard Gore, Edna “Marie” Henard Lacock, Beulah Maxine Henard Spraggs, Ruth Isabelle Henard and Frances E. Henard Lovett.
Bill was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War era. He was employed in 1971 by the Illinois Department of Corrections at the Vienna Correctional Center as an officer. Bill retired on December 30, 1991.
Bill was a faithful Christian. He and Freeda were members of the Anna Heights Baptist Church. More recently, following their move to Paducah, they have attended the West End Baptist Church. Bill was a retired Baptist minister. He served as pastor of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Buncombe as well as the Tunnel Hill Baptist Church. Bill was a devoted student of the Bible. He also enjoyed fishing, reading, and carpentry.
A service honoring the life of William L. Henard will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, December 5, 2017, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Buncombe.
Visitation will be held Monday evening, December 4, 2017, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
