Herbert Timothy “Tim” Copley

Herbert Timothy “Tim” Copley, age 62 years, was born March 20, 1955 in Grantsburg, Illinois to Doris (Evans) Baker and Herman Copley.  He passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017, at 2:45 PM at his home in Metropolis.

Tim attended Grantsburg Grade School then Vienna High School  He joined the U.S. Army in 1972 during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged on September 30, 1975.

Tim was united in marriage to Cathy Ann Stockton on January 13, 1973.  They had 3 sons – Joel James Michael, Timothy Andrew and Jeremy Dean Marshall, all whom survive.  Tim and Cathy also have 7 grandchildren – Alexandrew, Cobie, Dylan, Cassidy, Lydia, Alison and Cayleb.  He is survived by 3 sisters and a brother – Linda Hartford, Lisa Kaylor, Darlene Troutt and William Copley; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law – Zetta Davidson, Riley and Pat Stockton, Leona & Jim Rader, and Pam Flora; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and a cousin – Jacqueline Evans.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents – Marshall & Lorraine Evans and Eula & William Copley; a brother – David William Flora; 2 uncles – Andy Evans and Jack Evans, who helped raise Tim and whom he loved dearly.

Tim was of the Baptist faith and was a devoted husband, father, brother and was loved by all that knew him.  He had a vivid imagination and loved a good joke more than most people.  His best friend in life preceded him in death, Danny Jaco, who he worked with at Electric Energy, Inc. for over 30 years.  He also leaves another best friend that he loved very much, Holly D. Waldon as well as Aunt Joann Evans.

Tim and Cathy enjoyed playing on a pool league at the Trails Inn in Metropolis.

A service honoring the life of Tim Copley will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Burial, with military graveside honors, will be in the Kerley Cemetery in the Flatwoods community in Johnson County, IL.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 12 Noon – 1 PM Wednesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.

  1. I’m sorry to say I left out a few names when attempting to write this. I was and in shock over losing this good man but know he’s in heaven with loved ones. His mother in law still survives, Frances M Bullock Rohrer, and a brother in law, Dane Clark. If I forgot more, please forgive me.
