Ruth Moak – Obituary

 

Ruth Moak, age 89 years, a former resident of Cypress, passed away Friday afternoon, November 3, 2017, at 5:38 PM at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.

Ruth was born January 28, 1928 on the family farm near Lisbon, Ohio. She was the second of twelve children and the only daughter born to Paul Clifford and Thelma Elizabeth (Pike) Crowell.

Ruth was united in marriage to Eldon A. Moak on June 28, 1947. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1995.

Survivors include: her daughter – Phyllis (Jerry) Oliver of Cypress; 4 grandchildren – Paul (Melissa) Moak of Cypress, Corey Moak of Vienna, Laura (Jake) O’Neal of Carrier Mills, and Luke Oliver of Makanda; 3 great grandchildren – Gabriel, Levi, and Jonah; 2 brothers – Tom (Elaine) Crowell of Columbiana, Ohio and Donnie (Brenda) Crowell of Salem, Ohio; a daughter-in-law – Charmion Moak of Vienna; 2 sisters-in-law – Virginia Crowell of Kensington, Ohio and Ellen Patterson of Carbondale; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives & many friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by: her son – James Moak; and 5 brothers – Edwin, Bobby, Merle, Kenny and Carl.

Ruth was proud to be a homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, vegetable and flower gardening. In her youth, Ruth had worked as a restaurant waitress. While she was working as a waitress in Alliance, Ohio, Ruth met her future husband Eldon. He was working on a pipeline in that area and came into the restaurant for a meal.

Ruth was a faithful member of Luther’s Chapel United Methodist Church near Cypress. She enjoyed spending time with her family and particularly cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth is fondly remembered for her skill in “being the best entertainer of small children.”

A service honoring the life of Ruth Moak will be conducted Tuesday morning, November 7, 2017, at 10 AM at Luther’s Chapel United Methodist Church near Cypress. Pastor Kenny Baker will officiate.

Burial will be in the Luther’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday evening, November 6, 2017, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna and from 9 AM – 10 AM Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at the church.
