Michael W. Harris, Sr. – Obituary

 

Michael W. Harris, Sr., age 68 years, a resident of Vienna, passed away Monday afternoon, October 2, 2017, at 12:30 PM at his home.

Mike was born June 10, 1949 in Metropolis, Illinois. He was the fifth of six children born to Elmer “Ted” and Goldia (Stephens) Harris.

On December 18, 2004, Mike was united in marriage to Mary E. (Leemon) Harris at the Vienna First United Methodist Church. She survives.

Mike is also survived by: his children – Michael W. (Maribeth) Harris, Jr. of Vienna, Mechaele M. Harris of Sevierville, Tennessee, and Christopher Harris of West Chicago; step children – Maribeth D. Ethridge-Hicks of Vienna and Joshua A. (Emily) Dippie of New Albany, Indiana; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a brother – Charles (Shirley) Harris of Pontotoc, Mississippi; and a sister – Judy Duarte of Dunedin, Florida.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers – Louis Ray Harris and D. Russell Harris and an infant sister – Nioka Harris.

Mike was a member of the U.S. Navy and served in the Seabees.

Mike was the owner and operator of a street rod shop in Ventura, California for a number of years. He also worked as a general contractor for Sunrise Construction Co. in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mike had a passion for classic cars. He was a member of the “Insufficient Funds” Car Club. Mike also enjoyed home renovation and improvement projects, fishing, and growing a wide variety of plants. He attended the Vienna First United Methodist Church.

A service honoring the life of Michael Harris, Sr., will be held Friday morning, October 6, 2017, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Dr. Joe Richard will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Anderson Cemetery in the Boaz community.

Visitation will be conducted Thursday evening, October 5, 2017, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home.
