By Ryan Wright

The Vienna-Goreville Eagles football team faced off against CZR at Christopher Friday, Aug. 25, for the first game of the season.

Even though the first game of the season was not at home, lots of Eagles fans piled in attendance for kickoff. The Eagles did not disappoint.

The Eagles made a statement right away as senior Jakob Breeden was able to get a five-yard carry for an early 6-0 lead with 8:26 left in the first.

The Eagles opened the score up when senior Peyton Massey carried a three-yard touchdown to put them up 12-0 with 3:21 left in the first.

After scoring the Eagles did not take long to regain possession, as senior Nolan Dahncke made an interception with 3:03 left in the first.

The Eagles offense continued to tower over their defenders, scoring another touchdown and a two-point conversion to make it 20-0 with 1:55 left in the first.

Dahncke yet again was able to stop CZR with a pick six putting it 27-0 with the help of a field goal from senior Chris Meyer.

Junior quarterback Logyn Frassoto was able to throw a touchdown pass to senior Dilynn Roper who was able to hold onto it, 33-0 Eagles winning to end the first quarter.

The Eagles continued to be indomitable as they scored another touchdown by Dahncke and were able to get a two-point conversion by Massey, 41-0 Eagles with 3:29 left in the second quarter. They went into halftime keeping the 41-0 lead, CZR not being able to defend, nor get any offense going.

The third and fourth quarters were all about the Eagles defense as they continued to hold CZR scoreless.

CZR was finally able to get onto the scoreboard, scoring a touchdown with 40 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles captured their first win of the season in incredible fashion, with the final score 41-6.

The Eagles will look to continue their superb play as their first home game is on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 1:00 p.m. against Eldorado.
