Rick Harris – Obituary

Rick Harris, age 62 years, a former resident of Ozark, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017, at 8:55 PM at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Rick was born June 22, 1955 in Harrisburg, Illinois. He was the son of Jack L. and Hazel P. (Rodgers) Harris.

Rick is survived by: his mother – Hazel Harris of Ozark; children: John David (his wife, Katie) Harris of Tunnel Hill, Julie (her husband, Chad) Krawczyk of Buncombe, Michelle Harris of Tunnel Hill, and Bailey Harris of New Burnside; step children – Adam Zappa of Ozark and Autumn (her husband, Jason) Moss of Golconda; 11 grandchildren – Micah Harris, Dylan Harris, Daylynn Harris, Michaela McHugh, Wyatt Krawczyk, Kyle Harris, Arionna Moss, Aiden Zappa, Michael McHugh, Levi Harris and Madison Harris; and 2 sisters – Jackie Pankey of Eldorado and Patty (her husband, Richard) Romain of Paducah, Kentucky.

In addition to his father, Rick was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah (Cannon) Harris.

Rick was a member of the 1973 graduating class of Vienna High School. He had been employed as a farm laborer. Also, Rick had worked as a correctional officer at the Vienna Correctional Center.

Rick was a member of the Ozark United Pentecostal Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed splitting firewood, hauling hay and horseback riding. Rick is fondly remembered as a “people person.” He cherished time spent visiting with family and friends.

A service honoring the life of Rick Harris will be conducted at 4 PM Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the Shawnee Worship Center, 105 Oliver St., Vienna, Illinois. Pastor Tex Perry will officiate. An opportunity will be given during the service for family members and friends to share their favorite “Rick story.” Also, those attending are asked to dress in something purple, which was Rick’s favorite color.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 PM – 4 PM Saturday at the Shawnee Worship Center.
