Corinne Wilkins – Obituary

Corinne Wilkins, age 81 years, a former resident of rural Creal Springs, passed away Tuesday morning, September 26, 2017, at 7:07 AM at the Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Corinne was born January 23, 1936 in West Frankfort, Illinois. She was the daughter of William Thomas and Lillie Jane (Franklin) Elliott.

On July 23, 1955, Corinne was united in marriage to Johnnie Wilkins in Harrisburg, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1993.

Corinne is survived by: her children – Marilee (H. Steven) Dittrich of Houston, Texas, Kathy (Dennis) Craig, Linda (Leonard) Craig, Andy Wilkins all residing near Creal Springs and Mike (Tammy) Wilkins of Bellevue, Nebraska; 9 grandchildren – Julia Dittrich, Christine Dittrich, Kevin Craig, Melissa (Anthony) McClelland, Amy (Daniel) McCraw, Brandi (Isaac) Goins, Drew (Kosova) Wilkins, Casey (Samantha) Wilkins and Haley (Nick) Ramsey; 15 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Corinne was also anticipating the birth of a great grandchild in April 2018.

In addition to her parents and husband, Corinne was preceded in death by a grandson – David Craig, an infant brother – William Ernest Elliott, and 2 sisters – Maxine Whitehead and Elaine Elliott.

Corinne was a 1953 graduate of Vienna High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed being a farmer’s wife. Corinne is fondly remembered for her love of gardening and canning and preparing homegrown produce. She was a skilled quilter. Through the years, Corinne handmade a quilt for each of her grandchildren and several of her great grandchildren.

Corinne was of the Christian faith and had attended the Birdwell Community Church where she had served as the pianist. She had also served as an election judge.

A service honoring the life of Corinne Wilkins will be conducted Friday, September 29, 2017, at 12 noon at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the New Burnside Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11 AM – 12 Noon Friday at Bailey Funeral Home.
