Library will soon offer eBooks

The Vienna Public Library will start offering eBooks to patrons beginning July 1.

They will be made available through Heartland Library System’s 3M Cloud Library and will have a 21 day loan period and will be removed from patrons devices at the end of the loan period.

Kindle eReaders, such as Paperwhite and Voyage, cannot read Cloud Library eBooks at this time.

This service is available to library patrons. Patrons will need a library card with a bar code to access any library service.

New cards have been issued due to the automation of library services.

Library cards are free to City of Vienna residents because they pay a small real estate tax to support services with payment of a non-resident fee.

The fee is currently $35 and will raise to $40 on July 1.

The fee is mandated by state law and must be at least equal to the amount the average resident pays in the annual real estate tax.

The library board keeps this fee as reasonable as possible and they are on one of the lowest fee schedules in the Library System.

Proof of address and a driver’s license is required to issue library cards.

Patrons are asked to allow ample time for this procedure as it does require several minutes to prepare a new card.
