Nelda Eloise Hacker – Obituary

Nelda Eloise Hacker, age 75 years, a resident of Vienna, Illinois, passed away from pneumonia on Thursday, May 4, 2017. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services.

Nelda was born March 23, 1942 in Moultrie County, IL to Marion and Hazel (Callahan) Cobb. She was the youngest of eight children. Nelda was united in marriage to Don Hacker on July 13, 1974.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: five children – Ed (Charleen) Soper of Eldorado, Belinda (Randel) Penrod of Buncombe, Sabrina (Alan) Alstat of Vergennes, Marilyn (Brian) Wathen of North Vernon, Indiana and David (Taylor) Hacker of Vienna; Eighteen grandchildren – Josh, Lincoln and Jonathan Lewis, Kevin, Aaron, Brian and Sarah Penrod, Heather Cox, Elizabeth Hannah and Michael Alstat, Samantha, Kathryn, Tyler and Abigail Wathen, Cyrus, Jimmie-Ann and Daisy Hacker; two brothers – Bruce Cobb of Mattoon and Olaf Cobb of Anna; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers – Joe and David Cobb; and three sisters – Mildred Sparling, Jenny Wickersham and Carol Davault.

Nelda worked as a babysitter, head start teacher and bus driver. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Vienna.

She had a great sense of humor and loved get-togethers filled with laughter. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to quilt

The preferred form of remembrance would be memorials to the First Christian Church, P.O. Box 637, Vienna, Illinois 62995 or to Hanging by a Thread, c/o Pat McCann, 3730 State Route 147, Vienna, Illinois 62995. This is a group Nelda helped start that makes blankets and quilts for needy children.
