Johnson County receives water and sewer grant

Johnson County has recently received a grant for a water main extension at East Crossroads.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, DCEO,  announced the recipients of the Community Development Block Grant, CDBG,  for Public Infrastructure on March 29.

Forty communities across the state will receive federal funds totaling $15.3 million.

These grants will help Illinois’ low-income communities undertake much needed public infrastructure projects such as water, sanitary system and sewer enhancements.

Johnson County received $152,333 for the East Crossroads water main extension.

Southern Five Regional Planning District and Development Commission submitted the grant on behalf of Johnson County.

The water line extension will serve about 10 residents, who are not currently supplied by water lines, but use wells instead.

Southern 5 applied for the grant in August 2016.
