Cypress School pre-k screening, kindergarten registration scheduled

Cypress Elementary School is scheduled to hold its pre-k screening and kindergarten registration day on Wednesday, April 26.

Appointments will be available from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Children will be screened in a variety of areas, including fine motor, gross motor, language development and cognitive development.

A nurse will be there to conduct vision and hearing screenings.

Children enrolling in pre-k must be between 3 and 5 years of age by Sept. 1 and not old enough to attend kindergarten.

Parents are asked to bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate, current physical and immunization/shot records on the day of screenings.

Cypress Elementary School offers a full day, 5 day per week pre-kindergarten program.

Pre-k aged children in the Buncombe school district also are a part of the Cypress pre-k program and are encouraged to attend this screening day.

Children entering kindergarten will be screened on this day also.

Parents enrolling their children in kindergarten need to bring a copy of their birth certificate, social security card, current physical and immunization/shot records with them on the day of the screenings.

Kindergarten children will also be required to have a dental exam and a vision exam before the first day of school.

Kindergarten children are also required to attend the school-wide registration event at the start of the school year in August.

Southern Seven Health Department will be available throughout the day for anyone that has questions regarding their child’s immunization. They will also be discussing their immunization plan.
