VGS Rams Statebound

On Thursday, Jan. 26, the Vienna Grade School boys basketball team played Gallatin County for the regional title. Gallatin County defeated Adams School 34-31 in round one and VGS defeated Hardin County 59-49 for the chance to go to the state tournament.

VGS started slow and were down after the first quarter, but the Rams didn’t give in. They kept playing hard on every possession. The halftime score was 31-20 with the Rams on top. The Rams never gave the lead back and won the game 64-37.

VGS had not won a boys basketball regional since 2004.

VGS plays in the Class M state tournament at Rend Lake College vs Smithton on Friday at 4:45 p.m. The Rams have a record of 23-5, which is the most wins in a season since 1984.

VGS varsity players include Brendan Dahncke, Eli Wright, Josh Cherry, Mason Kerley, Gordy Muckle, Lane Ross, Clay Fraser, Skylar Blankenship, Dawson Hill, Thomas Craig, Micah Harris, Dalton Nesler and Kyle Harris.
