Ronald E. Okerson – Obituary

Ronald E. Okerson, 78 of Dixon Springs, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Metropolis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Metropolis.
He was born August 17, 1938 in Rosiclare, IL. Ron was the oldest of four boys born to Imogene (Needham) and Commodore Okerson. On December 31, 1971, Ronald was united in marriage to Carol Lee Tracy in Lombard, IL.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Carol and five children, Alice “Jean” (Carlos) Alicea, Swainsboro, GA, Cheryl Cook, Marion, IL, Ronald Okerson II, Chicago, IL, Toni (Tomas) Ortega, Crab Orchard, IL, Traci Pointer, Nashville, TN; ten grandchildren, Maria Alicea, Rebecca (Richard) Rhodes, Jose (Samantha) Alicea, Jonathon Cook, Brandon Cook, Jessica Ortega, Javier Ortega, Adrianna Ortega, Arya Pointer, Daniel Ortega; two great grandchildren, Carlos Alicea, Madisyn Cook; three brothers, John (Karen) Okerson of Vienna, IL, Albert (Linda) Okerson of Franklin, TN, Anthony (Gisela) Okerson of Golconda, IL; many nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by two children, Robert Eugene Okerson, Deborah Okerson; parents, Imogene (Needham), Commodore Okerson.
Ronald was an active member at Community Chapel, Golconda. His love for the Lord was the pinnacle of his life. Ronald’s other passion was flying airplanes and building. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Cave In Rock Masonic Lodge #444 A.F. & A.M. Retired from State of Illinois as an Animal Products and Health Investigator.
Funeral service will be 10:00 am on Friday February, 24, 2017 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL. The service will be conducted by Pastor Robert Turner. Interment will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery in Cave In Rock, IL. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

  1. As my Grandfather all I can say is he loved God and his family with everything inside of him. If I can grow to be half of the person he was I will be satisfied. Granpa you will always be loved and forever in our memory. I love you ! Go and be with Jesus until we get there!
