James L. “Buck” Savage, age 78 years, a resident of Vienna, Illinois passed away Friday morning, December 30, 2016, at 4:30 a.m. at Baptist Health Care in Paducah, Kentucky.
James was born April 1, 1938 in Parkin, Arkansas. He was the son of John Harvey Savage and Mattie Marie (Butts) Savage.
On January 4, 1960, Buck was united in marriage to Kathryn L. “Kathy” Taormina in Forrest City, Arkansas. Together, Buck and Kathy had shared almost 57 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Buck is survived by 3 sisters – Dorothy Jones of Alabama, Linda Fincher of Texas and Joyce (her husband, Noel) Thorpe of Michigan, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by a sister – Hazel Savage and a brother – Wayne Savage.
Buck had been employed by Toastmaster, Inc. in Elgin as a punch press operator. Since the 1970’s, Buck had worked as a commercial truck driver. He was employed as an over-the-road truck driver by Schneider, Inc from 1988-2004.
Buck enjoyed fishing. He was an accomplished singer and musician, particularly skilled at playing the guitar and bass. He and Kathy regularly attended the Friday Night Jam Sessions at Ullin.
A memorial service honoring the life of James L. “Buck” Savage will be conducted at 7 PM Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 PM until the service time at 7 PM.
