Shirley Jones, age 81 years, a resident of rural Vienna, passed away Wednesday morning, December 7, 2016, at 6:18 AM at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born November 16, 1935 in Buncombe, Illinois. She was the eldest daughter of Guy F. Pearce and Rhudell (Russell) Pearce.
On June 29, 1973, Shirley was united in marriage to Jack Jones at the First Baptist Church in Vienna. He survives.
Other survivors include: her daughters – Kim (her husband, Bob) Collins and Kelly (her husband, Mark) Bean all of Vienna; 4 grandchildren – Shannon (her husband, Jamie) Kerley, Stacy Bean, Allison Bean and Clint Collins; 4 great grandchildren – Laney, Chloe, Anna and Jackson; 3 sisters – Jeannette Zych of Steger, Rosemary (her husband, Bob) Hook of Vienna and Frances (her husband, Henry) Bullock of Grantsburg; a brother-in-law – Russell (his wife, Norene) Jones of Benton, Kentucky; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a brother-in-law – Stan Zych.
Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Vienna High School. She also attended Shawnee Community College. Following her graduation, Shirley served for a time as a secretary at Vienna High School. From 1961-1980, Shirley was employed by the Johnson County Highway Department. Beginning in 1980, Shirley worked in the office of the Johnson County Circuit Clerk. She served as Deputy Circuit Clerk prior to her retirement in 1996.
Shirley was a member of the Daniel Chapman Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Vienna where she formerly taught Sunday School for many years.
Shirley enjoyed reading and traveling. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She took particular joy in the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A service honoring the life of Shirley Jones will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church, 301 North 7th Street, Vienna, Illinois. Dr. Ed Hollis will officiate. Entombment will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
Visitation will be conducted Friday, December 9, 2016, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna and from 10 AM – 11 AM Saturday at the First Baptist Church.
