John Wayne Albert, 74, of Vienna, Illinois formally of Elkhart, IN, passed away suddenly Saturday, October 15, 2016 at his home.
John was born in Harvey, IL to Eileen A. (Severs) Albert and Luzern K. Albert on September 15, 1942.
John married Dixie Ates in February 1963 and had three children. Later married Cathy Carithers in
August 1976. John is survived by two daughters, Sonya (Steve) Stanage and Lynn (Bill) Gilvin both
of Elkhart, Indiana. Grandchildren include Timothy (Andrea) Selner, Benjamin Selner, Donny Frandsen, Mary Frandsen all of Elkhart and Jessica Frandsen of Pittsburgh, PA. John’s brothers Frank “Tony” (Mary)Albert of Oregon and Kenneth (Sally) Albert of Wisconsin. Great grandchildren, Mckynzie, Ethan, Julie, Guy and Grieson will miss him deeply. Along with numerous nieces and nephews that he cherished.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Brothers Arthur and Richard Albert. Along with second wife, Cathy and son, John Albert II; granddaughter, Erika Beachy, grandmother, Elizabeth Severs and uncle, Richard Severs.
John proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kearsarge from 1959 until honorably discharged in 1963. His time spent in the Navy and the love of his country carried with him proudly his entire life. John retired as a maintenance mechanic from Com-ED in 1992.
His favorite past time was spending time with his family and friends. Some of his best memories were from deer camp with his brother Arthur and his nephew Artie and fishing with his grandsons, Tim and Ben. He never met a stranger and we all will miss his larger than life story telling. John was a life long fan of the Green Bay Packers and was to go to his first professional game at Lambeau on Thursday with daughter, Sonya and son-in-law, Steve. He was looking forward to crossing it off his bucket list. During his life time he also loved the companionship of his beloved dogs.
In accordance with John’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. A memorial will be at a later date. Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, IL has been entrusted with the arrangements.
