Geraldine Cavitt – Obituary

cavitt-geraldine-photographGeraldine Cavitt, age 84 years, a resident of rural Vienna, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 13, 2016, at 3:53 PM at Integrity Healthcare in Marion, Illinois.

Geraldine was born April 7, 1932 near Vienna. She was the daughter of John H. and Lillian M. (Brown) Odum.

On June 28, 1948, Geraldine was united in marriage to John D. Cavitt at Carbondale. Together, John and Geraldine enjoyed over 68 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband, Geraldine is survived by: her children – Sondra Goins of Vienna, Vicki Gordon of Vienna, and Greg (his wife, Trina) Cavitt of Creal Springs; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister – Mary Lee (her husband, Bill) Veach of Goreville; a brother – Wayne (his wife, Ethel) Odum of Tunnel Hill, a brother-in-law – Jesse (his wife, Mary Lou) Cavitt of Manteno; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by: a grandson – Jarrod Cheek; a son-in-law – Woody Goins; a brother – John Vernial Odum; and 3 sisters – Wilma June Odum, Virginia Marie Odum, and Imogene McMahan.

Geraldine was employed for approximately 28 years by Meller-James & Associates Veterinary Services as a secretary. She was also a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, making handcrafted crochet items and loved to quilt. Geraldine also enjoyed fishing.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Gospel Mission. Geraldine loved music and enjoyed singing the traditional hymns of the church and seldom needed a hymn book to remember the words.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, October 16, 2016, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Jeff Morrow will officiate. Burial will be in the Graves – Mt. Olive Cemetery north of Vienna.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 12 Noon – 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
