Velma Lois Robinson, age 88, went to be with her Lord on September 11th, 2016. She passed at Hollymead Nursing Home in Flower Mound, Texas. She was born, the youngest of five children on May 30, 1928 in Cypress, Illinois to John and Almeda (Porter) Mathis .
Velma married James (Jim) Robinson upon his return from World War II on January 26, 1946, in Cypress, Illinois. They had two children: Daughter, Lena Sue, born March 14, 1947 and Son, Rodney Lee born July 25, 1949.
Velma went to beauty school and became a Hairstylist. Velma (52) and Jim (57) retired to Kentucky where they resided at 128 Byron Drive. She was a longtime member of the Reidland United Methodist Church. She served the church and congregation in many roles, including Church President. She served her church and the Lord with her whole heart. She loved her church and was loved by everyone. In October of 2008 they joined their daughter and extended family in the Dallas Metrolplex.
Velma is survived by her daughter Lena Berkland, Flower Mound, Texas, five grandchildren, Lisa (Bob) Miller, Flower Mound, Tx., Katrina (Chris) Gunn, Flower Mound, Tx., Rob (LeAnn) Berkland, Southlake, Tx., Brad Robinson (Kaylie) , Bellville, Ill. and Brian Robinson, Bellville, Ill., eight great-grandchildren, Peyton and Hailey Miller, Addison and Greyson Gunn, Robby and Christian Berkland, Grace, Landon and Kaden Robinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Robinson, son, Rodney Robinson, and Son-in-law Bob Berkland.
Funeral services for Velma Lois (Mathis) Robinson will be held at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 14th, at Flower Mound Family Funeral Home in Flower Mound, Texas. Rev. Bill Lewis the associate pastor at Flower Mound United Methodist Church will officiate. Relatives and friends are welcome.
A further time of visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, Illinois, on Saturday, September 17th from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Reidland United Methodist Church, 5515 Reidland Road, Paducah, Kentucky 42003. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
