Garry Gene Phillips – Obituary

Phillips, Garry G.Garry Gene Phillips, age 76 years, a resident of Anna, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 3, 2016, at 4:05 PM at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Garry was born May 6, 1940 in Vienna, Illinois. He was the son of Claude and Helen (Croft) Phillips.

On February 11, 1961, Garry was united in marriage to Mary L. “Lou” Lawrence in Vienna. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2012.

Survivors include: his daughters – Timara Kessler of Cobden, Christel (her husband, James) Prater and Nikki (her husband, Brian) Craig all of Anna; 8 grandchildren – Tara (her husband, Cory) Ganwich, Lacy (her husband, Michael)) Heidolph, William (his wife, Dayna) Hopkins, Tori (her husband, Cameron) Williams, Dale Prater, Nolan Prater, Payton (her husband, Alex) Foeller, and Noah Craig; 3 great grandchildren – Maddie and Chloe Hopkins and Liberty Foeller; a brother – Allen (his wife, Aleda) Phillips of California and a niece – Majhon (her husband, Noah Wiseman) Phillips of California.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents – Claude Phillips and Helen Phillips Cook; an infant son – Garry Lynn Phillips; and his stepfather – Elmer Cook.

Garry was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

He had been self-employed as an over-the-road truck driver. Additionally, Garry was formerly employed in the sales and marketing division of M.K.T. (Missouri-Kansas-Texas) Railroad and worked for several years as a deputy for the Wayne County Missouri Sheriff’s Department.

Garry was a devout Christian and loving father. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

A memorial service honoring the life of Garry G. Phillips will be conducted Thursday morning, July 7, 2016, at 11 AM at Taylor Cemetery, 5616 U.S. Highway 45 North, Vienna. Pastor Bon Reynolds will officiate. Military graveside honors will be accorded.
Those attending the service are asked to gather at the cemetery at 10:45 AM Thursday.
