One person has been confirmed dead as a result of a house fire in Goreville Tuesday morning. Jessie Hancock, 48, died of smoke inhalation according to Johnson County Coroner David Rockwell.
The fire was reported at approximately 6:45 Tuesday morning, March 1, at 116 E. Main Street in Goreville. Goreville firemen arrived to find flames coming from the roof. Lake of Egypt and Vienna fire departments were called for assistance. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
