Erma L. Palmer, age 85, a resident of Vienna, passed away Monday morning, February 1, 2016, at 4:07 AM at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Erma was born October 10, 1930 in Johnson County Illinois. She was the daughter of Clarence and Etta Mae (Claxton) Kerley.
On October 24, 1946, Erma was united in marriage to Rev. James L. Palmer at Simpson, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1989.
Survivors include: her children – James Larry Palmer of Vienna and Anita Lynne Reynoso of Windsor, Colorado; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; 2 sisters – Eula Edith McManus of Peoria and Eva Aline Wheat of Copperas Cove, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Erma was preceded in death by: 2 daughters – Katherine Sue Palmer & Deborah Lou Murphy; 2 sons – Bobby Glenn Palmer & Philip Edward Palmer; 2 sisters – Arreta Mae Kerley & Norma J. Newton; and 6 brothers – William Russell Kerley, James Elvis Kerley, Earnest Kerley, Delbert Wayne Kerley, Paul L. Kerley, and Thomas Dale Kerley.
Erma was a homemaker. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, making handcrafted crochet items, and reading. She particularly enjoyed reading romance novels. Erma was a dedicated fan of the country-western entertainer George Strait. When her health permitted, Erma enjoyed bowling and had been a league bowler.
Erma was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Peoria.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, February 4, 2016, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Brother Jimmy Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in the Gilead Cemetery near Simpson.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 11 AM – 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
