Edna L. Hall, age 95 years, a resident of rural Grantsburg, passed away Tuesday morning, February 2, 2016, at 12:50 a.m. at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.
Edna was born August 24, 1920 near Eddyville, Illinois. She was the sixth of seven children born to Charlie and Teresia (Basinger) Brush.
On June 1, 1936, Edna was united in marriage to Hartley Hall at the Reevesville United Methodist Church parsonage. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1992.
Edna is survived by: her daughter – Karen Joan Hooks of Grantsburg; 4 grandchildren – Ricky Thomas (Regina) Allen, Randy Joe Allen, Heath Hartley (Jo Dawn) Hooks, and Michael Ray Hooks; 8 great grandchildren – Joanna Allen, Joseph Allen, Emily Hooks, Julianna Allen, Katherine Allen, Elizabeth Allen, Rachel Hooks, and Hugh Hooks; as well as nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was preceded in death by: 2 brothers – Troy Brush and Marion “Monk” Brush; and 4 sisters – Elsie Robinson, Eula Hall, Ermalee Harp, and infant Mary Brush.
Edna was employed as an aid and housekeeper at the Mt. Shelter Care Home near Simpson for many years. She also had worked as an assembler at the Good Luck Glove Factory in Metropolis as well as providing housekeeping services for local families.
Edna had been a faithful member of the Golden Circle Senior Citizens Center in Golconda. She was also a member since the late 1940s of the Dixon Springs Baptist Church where she served for many years as the song leader and also taught in the children’s Sunday School department.
Edna is remembered for her love of raising flowers. She was also a skilled seamstress and provided custom sewing service, as well as quilt making. Edna also enjoyed making handcrafted crochet items. She had made afghans for each of her family members as well as quilts for many of her relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 5, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Dixon Springs Baptist Church, 964 State Highway 146 W, Golconda, Illinois 62938.
Burial will be in the Rock Springs Cemetery near Simpson.
Visitation will be conducted Friday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Dixon Springs Baptist Church.
