Jacquetta Johns – Obituary

Johns,Jackie Picture 001Jacquetta Johns, formerly Waters, age 85 years, a resident of Cobden, Illinois, passed away Monday evening October 19, 2015, at 8:18 PM at Hillview Healthcare Center in Vienna.

Jackie was born April 28, 1930 in Geddes, South Dakota.  She was the daughter of Guy Haden and Holda (Paulsen) Haden.

On August 5, 1946, Jackie was united in marriage to Thomas Clayton Waters in Vienna.  He preceded her in death on March 28, 1973. She was later united in marriage to Lionel Johns on June 24, 1973 in Massac County and he preceded her in death on June 22, 1998.

Survivors include: her children – Dannie (Debbie) Waters of Vienna, Don (Kathy) Waters of Goreville, Sharon (Kendall) Buchanan of Golconda, Barb (Billy) Cheek of Cobden, and David (Cindy) Waters of Vienna; 13 grandchildren – Shari, Jennifer, Cody (Nicole), Chad (Sarah), Carrie (Mark), Kevin(Sheri), Robert (Kim), Melissa (Bobby), Kris, Shekinah, Cory (Darla), Thomas (Alex), and Bryan; 16 great grandchildren – Nicholas, Thomas, Jackson Lee, Caleb, Jared, Amberlee, Addison, Brooklyn, Blake, Briley, Alyssa, Lane, Jacob, Jenna, Julia, Braeley; 6 step-great grandchildren; 1 step-great great grandchild; a sister – Belva Clayton of Alton; a brother – Tom Haden of Bloomfield; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Jackie was preceded in death by: a brother – Dwight Haden.

Jackie was an avid lover of horses and was a long time worker on the family farm. She also worked as a cook on the river boat, a union steward for Western Electric, operated a ceramic business, and was a fashion consultant for Queensway. However, Jackie always had a huge heart for the work that she did as a social worker in the Vienna-Karnak area, especially when it came to helping minority people in need.

Jackie was a member of the Pope County Saddle Club. Lionel and her spent many years taking a covered wagon and mules along the Trail of Tears and almost visited every state in the union. She was an amazing cook and always acted as the mother hen to everyone in the family.

Jackie was of the Methodist faith.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 2 PM, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Interment will be in the Casey Springs Cemetery outside of Vienna.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 12 PM – 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home.
