Mildred Harris, age 88, of Massac County, (Hillerman Community), passed away at 4:55 p.m. Thursday evening, September 24, 2015 at her home.
Mildred worked in area restaurants until obtaining her CNA liscense and then began her career in nursing at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Metropolis. She last worked at Massac Memorial Hospital where she lovingly cared for many patients over the years. She enjoyed the caregiver roll since it must have come natural to her as she was the mother of eight children and the grandmother of many grandchildren.
Mildred was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and had several nieces and nephews all of which she loved dearly. She will be terribly missed by her loving family.
Mildred had Alzheimers Disease and had been cared for at home by her family until she departed this life.
She is survived by one sister, Mary Adeline Cordor of Marion; four daughters, Wilma June Hines Russell of Vienna, Phyllis Ann Hines Jaco of Metropolis, Wanda Ruth Hines Wright and Jack of Stonewood, West Virginia, Beatrice Kay Hines Gordon and James of Hillerman; four sons, Milton Lee Hines II of Buncombe, James Lafayette Hines of Brookport, John Marcus Hines of Stonewood, West Virginia and Valerie of Nutterfort, WV, Darell Wayne Hines of Vienna; one step son, Harry Lee Harris and Dee of Joppa; one adopted son, Paul McIe of Clarksburg, WV.
She is also survived by fourteen granddaughters, Priscilla June Newton Hill and Wendell of Ozark, Reatha Jean Burton Lee of Lakeland, FL, Lolita Dean Burton Walker and Steve of Golconda, Carmelita Marie Burton Elfrink and Terry of Oran, MO, Lori Ann Johnston Klotz and Dewayne of Brookport, Monica Diane Johnston Marquiss and Aaron of Metropolis, Amanda Kay Wright Jabbour and Jacob of Morgantown, WV, Stacie Renee Hines of Karnak, Samantha Jo Hines and JW of Stonewood, WV, Stephanie Mae Gordon Collier and Michael of Colorado Springs, CO, Sarah Che’ri Gordon and Justin of Peoria, Ora Lynn Oldham of Indiana, Christie Otis Trout and Robbie of Mermet, Jennifer Otis Belmonte and Gary of Joppa; sixteen grandsons, William Edward Newton and Tammy of Ozark, Robert Lee Newton and April of Ozark, Steven Andrew Newton and Jessica of Harrisburg, Milton Lee Hines III of Russelville, AR, Jesse James Hines and Sheila of Poplar Bluff, MO, Louie E. Burton and Kim of Lakeland, FL, Vernon Duane Johnston and Lori of Hamletsburg, James Scott Hines of Joppa, Andrew Corey Hines of Brookport, John Marcus Hines II and Lisa of Metropolis, Darell Wayne Hines II of Vienna, Tobias G. Hines and Jennifer of Dayton, OH, Christopher Lee Hines and Jessica of Hillerman, Nathaniel Ray Anderson and Brittany of Hillerman, David Brent Anderson and Kayla of Metropolis, Tony Ray Otis and Lynne of Goldsboro, NC, and her caregiver of ten years Sharon Bowman of Metropolis.
Additionally, she is survived by fiftynine great grandchildren, one on the way (Walker Brion Cooley), thirtyfour great great grandchildren with two on the way.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Lafayette Riley, she lost her mother Beatrice Mable Tippet Riley at five years old, infant brother Louis Ray Riley, grandpa and caregiver James Alexander Riley, Father, John Raymond Riley, father of her children Milton Lee Hines, step-mother, Rosa Marie Denison Riley, grandson, Steven Lawrence Burton, brother, Gilbert Milo Riley, grandson, Robert Dale Hines, brother, William Smith Riley, great grandson Conner Michael Collier, beloved companion of forty years Delmer Dean Hines, great great grandson, Kayden Lane Hines and brother, James Cota Riley.

Funeral services for Mildred Harris will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Rev. Shane Baker will be officiating.
Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in the Hillerman Community.
Pallbearers will be Billy Newton, Mark Hines, Nathan Anderson, Chris Hines, Brent Anderson, Duane Johnston, Jesse Hines, Scott Hines, Stacie Hines and Dewayne Klotz. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim, John and Darell Hines.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5 – 8 at the funeral home and Monday morning from 9 until the funeral hour of 11.
