Joe C. Farris, age 76 years, a resident of rural Vienna, passed away Thursday evening, August 27, 2015, at 8:38 PM at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.
Joe was born April 27, 1939 in Carbondale, Illinois. He was the son of Marion Farris and Marie (Carlton) Farris.
Joe was united in marriage to Sharon A. (Jones) in 2002 on the family farm. She survives.
Other survivors include: his children – Russ (Kirsten) Farris of Springfield, Sara Farris of Houston, Texas, Todd (Sarah) Farris of Mt. Pulaski, Chad (Julie) Martin of Wheeler, Josh Carney of Chicago and Suzi Alfonso of Lincolnton, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Dawn Farris of Ava, Illinois; other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a son, Matt Farris and a grandson, Joey Alfonso.
Joe was a veteran of the Illinois National Guard serving from 1956 through 1959, as well as a 1957 graduate of Vienna High School.
From 1963 through the early 1980s, Joe was well known as the owner and operator of the Farris Motor Company. Afterward, Joe worked as the Chief Engineer at the Vienna Correctional Center until his retirement in 2002.
Joe was an active board member for the Johnson Cemetery, a past member of the Vienna High School Board of Education, and a former Director of the Board for the First State Bank.
Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vienna, but had more recently been attending services at the Simpson Baptist Church.
Joe had a special passion for farming. He also loved and cherished his family and his beloved dogs. In his spare time, Joe had a special interest in antique tractors and trucks.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, September 1, 2015, at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church of Vienna.
Burial will be in the Johnson Cemetery east of Vienna.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM Monday at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, and from 10 – 11 AM Tuesday at First Baptist Church.
