Guy was born August 5, 1923 in rural Belknap. He was the son of Guy Casper and Essie Ruth (Marlman) Casper.
On December 27, 1947, Guy was united in marriage with Betty Jo Keller in Carbondale. Together, they enjoyed over 67 years of marriage; she survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: 4 daughters – Jane (Michael) Bailey of Lubbock, Texas, Jean (Scott) Obourn of Vienna, IL, Judy (Michael) Brummer of Shumway, IL, and Joyce (Dan) Teich of St. Joseph, Michigan; grandchildren, including Tiffany (Nathan) Bigelow, Brandon (Nikki) Bailey, Melanie (Harry) Blackstock, Darren Obourn, Malcolm (Amanda) Obourn, John Obourn, Jason (Tiffany) Brummer, Jennifer (Jeff) Bunton, Amanda (Matt) Everett, Chris (Morgan) Teich, Sarah Jane (fiancé Jake Meyers), and Ryan Teich; 16 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives, many dear friends, and his faithful little buddy and beloved dog, Lily.
In addition to his parents, Guy was preceded in death by: an infant sibling, a sister, Ruth Walker, a brother, Paul Casper, and twin sisters, Ellen Walker and Helen Godwin.
Guy was a graduate of Karnak High School and a U.S. Navy veteran. He served on the Johnson Co. Agriculture Advisement Committee and, for many years, on the REA board at the local, regional and state level. He also was a member of Vienna High School Board of Education for several years. He was a lifelong member of the Belknap United Methodist Church, volunteering in many leadership positions, and was a past member of the Masonic Lodge.
For five years, Guy served with the Illinois State Police, but his true passion was working the family farm. He spent many years farming with his family. He loved to give his grandchildren tractor rides and occasionally let them drive, if their parents were not looking. After he retired, he developed a passion for traveling, fishing, and restoring old cars.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, April 11, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, IL. Pastor Steve Heisner will officiate. Burial will be in the Cypress Masonic Cemetery.
Visitation will be conducted from 1 – 3 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Bailey Funeral Home.
