Clara was born May 2, 1928 in Belknap, Illinois. She was the daughter of John H. and Minabelle (Wallace) Crawford.
On February 18, 1948, Clara was united in marriage to Wayne McHugh in Vienna.
He preceded her in death on November 16, 2000.
Clara is survived by: a son – Richard “Dick” McHugh and his wife Bonnie of Vienna; 2 grandchildren – John McHugh and Tara Chapman and her husband Brad; 4 great grandchildren – Michaela McHugh, Wyatt Krawczyk, Michael McHugh, and Enola Chapman; 2 sisters – Joann Elliott and her husband Bill of Vienna and Ruth Johnson and her husband Bob of Patoka; nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Clara was preceded in death by a sister – June Newman.
Clara was a graduate of Vienna High School. For a time, she was employed at the State Hospital in Manteno, Illinois. Later, she worked in the laundry department of the Hillview Health Care Center and as a home services aid employed by Shawnee Development Council. Clara also provided housekeeping services for a number of families.
Clara was a faithful member of the Vienna First Christian Church. She had taught Sunday School, volunteered as a Vacation Bible School and church camp worker and was a member of “God’s Girls” church ladies group. Clara also had volunteered at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin.
Clara was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loved the comedy of Ray Stevens. She, along with her husband Wayne, enjoyed camping. They made many enjoyable trips to Kentucky Lake and also visited Branson, Missouri. When she wasn’t cheering on her beloved Cardinals, Clara also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and America’s Funniest Home Videos.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, May 2, 2015, at 4 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Brother Les Chamberlain will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
Visitation will be conducted from 2 PM – 4 PM Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
