Gwendolyn Joyce Kennedy, age 62 years, a resident of Vienna, passed away Thursday morning, February 19, 2015, at 4:45 a.m. at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Illinois.
Gwen was born August 6, 1952 in St. Louis Missouri. She was the daughter of Dudley Daniel & Dolores (Inger) Daniel.
Gwen had been united in marriage to her soulmate, Ricky Wayne Kennedy, with whom she was recently re-united.
Additionally, Gwen is survived by her loving children – Ann (Shawn) Tripp of Goreville, Kara (Shane) Elms of Tunnel Hill; Tammy Caraker and friend Dallas H. Harner of Vienna, Donna (Michael) Sadler of Anna, Drake (Nancy) Kennedy of Vienna, and Falon (Sean) Whitnel of Belknap; 25 grandchildren – Taylor, Blake, Brenni Jo, Dayton, Nathan, Kayla, Shayna, Ariana, Zacharia, Joshua, Logan, Parker, Skyler, Karly, Jayley, Ethan, Cassidy, Izabelle, Noah, Jonah, Livingston, Owen, Paycee, Shiloh and Cash; 3 great grandchildren – Elliahna, Lana, and Leela; 2 sisters – Karren Phinney and Debbie Daniel both of Belleville; and 2 brothers – Gary Daniel and Michael (Yvonne) Parr of Bloomsdale, Missouri. Gwen was also anticipating the birth of 2 additional grandchildren this summer.
In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by a brother – Dennis Daniel.
Gwen was a devoted homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and taking care of her animals. Gwen had a very compassionate, loving, giving, and considerate spirit. Her home and her table were always open to everyone. She willing gave of herself to meet both the physical as well as the spiritual needs of many who sought her care. Gwen is fondly remembered by her family as “The World’s Best Mom” and a true example of a Proverbs 31 Mother.
Gwen was a devoted and faithful Christian. She worshiped at the New Burnside Community Church and spent many private hours in Bible reading and also participated in a Women’s Bible Study.
Gwen was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, February 22, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Tim Blankenship and Pastor Jeff Van Cleve will officiate. Burial will be in the New Burnside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
