Jose Jesus “Joe” Borunda, age 85 years, a resident of rural Ozark and a former resident of Metropolis, passed away Monday morning, January 12, 2015, at 6:50 a.m. at the Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Paducah, Kentucky.
Joe was born February 18, 1929 in Miami, Arizona.
On June 29, 1984, Joe was united in marriage to Mary L. (Melcher) in Joliet. She survives.
Additionally, Joe is survived by: his children – Serigo, Guadelupe, Ruben, Veronica, Adrian, and Danyelle; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, including Tyler and McKenzie Nugent. Joe is also survived by his dear friend and side-kick, Bill Newton of Ozark.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
Joe was employed as a supervisor by the Exelon Nuclear Plant (Dresden Station) near Joliet, Illinois for many years. During his retirement in Southern Illinois, Joe had worked for 20 years at the Metropolis Dollar General Store.
Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed working on home repair projects and detailing his automobile. Joe was a busy person and could always find something to do. For many years, Joe was an avid Chicago Bears football fan. More recently, however, he had changed his allegiance to the Dallas Cowboys.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services.
