Betty Collins Altenberger, age 81, of Kankakee, IL, formerly of Karnak, passed away at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
Betty was a retired Tech from the Kankakee State Hospital having worked there for over forty years. She loved to crochet and was a wonderful cook always trying to feed everybody who walked though her front door. She was a dedicated mother loving each one of her ‘favorite’ sons with all her heart! Each grandchild also held a special place with her.
Betty is survived by three sons, Lindell, wife (Robin) Altenberger of Kankakee, Leslie, wife (Tonya) Altenberger of Kankakee, Andy, wife (Cindy) Altenberger of Bradley, IL; one brother, Billy Collins of Karnak; two grandsons, Jason and Joel Altenberger of Kankakee; five granddaughters, Regina and Abby Altenberger of Bradley, IL, Alison Ford of Bourbonnais, IL, Jamie Kershaw of Kankakee and Emilie Altenberger of Oglesby, IL; five great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Eugene Altenberger; parents, Banard and Mae Corzine Collins; four brothers, Adam Howard, Herschel, Glen and Virgil Collins; three sisters, Jewel Stewart, Georgia Grace and Catherine Ramage.
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Altenberger will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Rev. Lonnie Adams will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Cypress. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour of 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
