David Craig Barefield, Sr, age 75, a resident of Simpson for 11 years, passed away Sunday evening, December 14, 2014, at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, Illinois. David was born June 10, 1939 in North Hollywood, California. He was the son of Leon Franklin Barefield and Wilma Beulah Kimberling Barefield.
David was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Fredericksen in 1959 in California and had enjoyed over 55 years of marriage before his passing, she survives.
In addition to his wife survivors include: his children – David Craig (Cynthia) Barefield, Jr of Cereal Springs, IL; Wilma Kay (Lesley) Dixon of Simpson, IL, Joan Florine Ramirez of Metropolis, IL and Jerry Lee Barefield of Simpson, IL; 17 grandchildren – Eric, Cassie, Cliff, Melissa, Sarah, Maria, Tina, Samantha, John, Amanda, Matthew, David, Alivia, Tabatha, Adam, Alex, and Daniel; 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-grandson expected to be born in April 2015, and 5 sisters.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by: a granddaughter – Justina; 1 great-grandson and great-granddaughter; a sister and 2 brothers.
David is a veteran of the United States military, serving 4 years in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged at the end of his service. Afterward, David worked for 35 years as a carpenter and following his retirement became a C.N.A. in California where he was employed for 8 years.
David is remembered as a caring and hardworking man and was well known for his devotion to his family. He also attended County Line Baptist Church, and had a love for hunting and fishing.
A Celebration of Life Service for David Craig Barefield, Sr will be held Friday December 19, 2014 at 2 PM at County Line Baptist Church. Reverend David Faulkner will officiate.
