Billy Joe Lindsey – Obituary

Billy Joe Lindsey, age 81 years, a resident of the New Columbia community passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at 10:20 a.m. at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

Billy Joe was born June 9, 1933 at New Columbia (the Samoth community) Illinois.  He was the son of Maynard Bruce Lindsey and Cora Delphia (McBride) Lindsey.

On October 13, 1954, Billy Joe was united in marriage to Ina Mae Henderson at the New Hope Baptist Church by Pastor Kermit Jackson.  Together, Billy Joe and Ina Mae enjoyed 60 years and 2 days of marriage.

In addition to his wife, Billy Joe is survived by: 2 sisters – Dorothy Jean Travis and Judy Arlene Troutt both of Metropolis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Billy Joe was preceded in death by a brother – Maynard Bruce Lindsey, Jr and an infant sibling.

Billy Joe was employed in the construction phase of the Joppa Power Plant.  He later worked at R.V. America and B&D Paint in Elkhart, Indiana, in the recreational vehicle manufacturing business.

Billy Joe was of the Baptist faith.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed working along with Ina Mae in their yard and tending their flowers.  Billy Joe and Ina Mae dearly loved the time they spent living in Elkhart, Indiana.  They resided next door to Ina Mae’s parents and younger brother.  Additionally, they had a wide circle of friends that they enjoyed socializing with at the Elkhart VFW Post.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, October 18, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Pastor Frank Forthman will officiate.  Interment will be at a later date in the Masonic Cemetery at New Columbia.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
